Never ever have only one kid. Some only children grow up to be normal, even awesome, individuals despite them being showered with unrelenting love and concern in their childhood. But chances are, your little emperor might never grow up to be anything more than an annoying, ungrateful little twat.

Wikipedia defines mono no aware as "the awareness of the transience of things and a bittersweet sadness at their passing". Which I reckon, is what one feels when one sees on facebook pictures taken by the new exchange student who now lives on the floor she used to live in, possibly in my old room, viewing the sunset i used to watch, dancing with the blonde danish kids who used to be her noisy neighbours, in the messy kitchen which converts into a dance floor complete with disco ball during parties.

Google Street View brings out the essence of that age-old adage, "so near yet so far". Through this wondrous invention, I'm along the Thames on Westminster bridge, looking at the London Eye. I have done this in reverse before — in Year 2 I used to squint at the Eiffel Tower webcam I had on iGoogle, watching the lights come on, all gold and sparkly. That was before I saw it over winter last year. But now, everything feels fucking far away. Come, December, Come!
