morning, upper east siders
did you know that for all the gossip girl episodes we've seen so far, their titles have been with reference to the titles of other films/plays/books? which is why i reckon the titles have always sounded so strangely familiar. for example, episode 6, 'the handmaiden's tale' (remember, the masquerade ball), was titled with reference to margaret atwood's 'the handmaid's tale'. also, the thanksgiving episode, 'blair waldorf must pie' is an obvious reference to 'john tucker must die', which coincidentally (or not), starred the dude we know as dan humphrey.
quite... unexpectedly intellectual huh.
i mean, its gossip girl after all. where every single episode starts with, 'hello there upper east siders, gossip girl here' and ends off with 'xoxo, gossip girl', where the constance billard choir sings fergie's 'glamorous' and eartha kitt's 'santa baby' in acapella, where every event is the most important event of the season (lets count, big sunday brunch, ivy mixer, masquerade ball, blair's sleepover, the catillion...), and where the incesutous relationships are a little too neat with the whole parents-oldersibling-youngersibling pairings (rufus-lily, dan-serena, eric-jenny), no?
but nevertheless, despite its absurdity, we continue to eagerly anticipate its weekly episodes (and moan and whine when theres no gossip girl episode that week thanks to christmas, thanksgiving and whatnot), for its scandalous behaviour, for the eyecandy and for that fabulous mix of sex and the city and the oc (:
